It really is like magic! I got my copy of June's tape yesterday-hand delivered by June herself. We met a few months ago through this list (Dollmakers List) and discovered we live in neighboring towns. So I was lucky enough to get a preview/demonstration along with my tape.

As we chatted, June sculpted a head using her new technique. In a matter of minutes (10-15) she had a fully sculpted head with the most lovely, clean satiny finish to it's skin. Even seeing that head come together so quickly and cleanly, I wasn't completely convinced it would work for me.

As soon as she left I sat down with my sculpting stuff and worked along as I watched the Magic Skin tape.
It works!

Now, I have nowhere near June's sculpting experience but I got a finished head with the same clean beautiful skin in an hour or two - first attempt. Ordinarily I spend at least that much time picking lint and dirt specks out of a piece. This will let me spend so much more time on the fun aspects of sculpting!

I've had the tape just 24 hours and am astonished by the combined benefits of faster sculpting and the most beautiful finish I have ever achieved. June announced the tape on the list on 2/20/03 I am truly excited about this. I have baked one head and it turned out great.
I'm sculpting another now.

I think this is a great innovation and the video takes you through the steps very clearly.

Yippee & thank you, June!

INNOVATIVE! -- From: Dolores

I just finished watching June's new video tape and I was totally mesmerized ... First off, June's sculpting technique in a video has been a long time coming.
That reason alone makes it worth getting this tape.

Even if you've been to one of June's seminars of which I personally have had two, I still like the idea of being able to review the methods she uses. Also I've found that with her new Magic Skin, her technique has changed somewhat so that even if you already know about the new skin, you'll still want to learn the new methods she has adopted make it all come together.

As for the Magic Skin, it's a kind of "Now, why didn't I think of that," sort of thing ... so simple yet so innovative. Now I'm not going to tell anyone the secret because it will spoil the surprise for those who don't yet have their video, but I promise you it won't be a disappointment.

Thanks June, I really loved it.

Hello, I have to join in w/praise for June Goodnow's Magic Skin video! Her presentation and techniques are clearly shown and easy to follow and the Magic Skin technique is the answer to a problem I have struggled w/forever.

I have complained about my dirty clay and because I prefer the translucence of the polymer clay painting over it is not to my liking.

So now to make some dolls w/clean faces. LOL

Thanks again June for sharing your excitement and techniques. It was almost as good as having a private seminar w/you.

I just got my Magic Skin video and watched it twice. Absolutely Great. I am overwhelmed with the wonder of it.

It was just like sitting across the table from NIADA artist June Goodnow and taking a lesson in sculpting from a master. This video tape is so well done that any doll maker will benefit from the technique she uses and her explanation of tools used.

June starts from making the armature to the finished doll head. You will see how the facial bones and muscles are added as June works from a picture of the doll she is making. All of the sculpting is done before the Magic Skin is added. The Magic Skin dramatically cuts down on the smoothing and smoothing of the clay.

You may choose to use this method or not, but it certainly adds a technique that takes some of the drudgery out of sculpting and the results are outstanding.
